This February I went to the VizThink Conference in San Francisco where I was fortunate enough to attend many informative sessions by insanely talented facilitators. One inspiring presentation was conducted by brilliant storyteller Nancy Duarte of Duarte Design in the Silicon Valley. Masters of their craft, Duarte Design owns a body of work and client list that any full service agency would be envious of, but they specialize in PowerPoint and Keynote presentations. Nancy's firm assisted to construct Al Gore's saga 'Inconvenient Truth'. You may have heard of Mr. Gore, a vanguard of the green movement, Oscar Winner, Nobel Peace Prize Recipient and a politician in his spare time

It's not a secret that Apple's Keynote excels in the visual communication space. In fact, this invaluable tool can be used for much more than your typical business presentation. You can extend Keynote beyond the boardroom to inspire the imagination. Keynote has an alter-ego that takes many forms. From a conceptual storyboard to a loose light table, Keynote's slide canvas can be the rough draft to your next masterpiece. Apple's Pro, Nancy Eaton, zooms into Tal Yardin's method to the madness.

Rich web applications are flooding the market--so remember to bring your rain boots. We recently introduced you to another snazzy presentation authoring tool that allows you to create polished communication devices. Now there's a new kid on the block. SlideRocket's little brother—I think not? Make no mistake, 280Slides doesn't play second fiddle to no one. Today, 280North introduced 280Slides (beta), a light weight alternative to desktop applications like PowerPoint and Keynote that runs directly on your web browser.

What's the next big thing in Presentation 2.0? Google and ZOHO are the frontrunners in the race for on-demand presentation solutions—until now. Enter SlideRocket, this early stage start-up has a promising application that will give these two heavyweights a run for their money in the web-ware space. Can SlideRocket beat out the reigning champions in the client-side desktop space: PowerPoint and Keynote? I'm very excited to see how SlideRocket will change the way people communicate.

Presentations have been around for ages, PowerPoint has been around for two decades. In this short period business professionals, academics, and the like have managed to mire the software's reputation from an indispensable communication tool into an instrument of torture that inflicts more bouts of boardroom and confusion than a college calculus course. Garr Reynolds has made it his life's work to reverse the tides of ineffective communications by borrowing principles from eastern-thinking to improve stale presentations. Garr is a champion of clarity, meaning, and the zen-aesthetic in his revolutionary book Presentation Zen: Simple Ideas on Presentation Design and Delivery (New Riders).
